Dr. Kim is a landscapce architect who designs and researches physical and virtual landscapes. He majored in landscape architecture as his undergraduate and earned his master's degree in design school. He started his research about virtual landscape and VR with his master's thesis, believing that the virtual landscape carries more potential than just being a tool to support design. Kim believes the virtual landscape will be a new domain for landscape architects. He joined an engineering doctoral course from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to develop the idea. Within the doctoral course, Kim developed the virtual landscape design methodology based on McHarg's theory and provided various design methodologies to the digital game industry based on traditional landscape architecture design. He joined the landscape architecture department at Istanbul Technical University after graduating in 2020. He is currently in charge of VR and the virtual landscape lab in the ITU TETA research center, studying human cognition in VR and the virtual landscape design methodology.
