Program Information Package

The Department of Landscape Architecture, within the Faculty of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University, began offering undergraduate, master's, and doctoral education in the 2002–2003 Academic Year.

The Undergraduate Program in Landscape Architecture is an interdisciplinary program, delivered entirely in English, that aims to equip students with knowledge and skills in landscape design, planning, implementation, environmental management, and professional practice. The program seeks to educate landscape architects who can holistically evaluate natural and built environments through ecological, aesthetic, functional, and cultural perspectives and design sustainable and resilient landscapes. Through a studio-based educational model, the disciplines of ecology, plant materials, landscape planning, and design are integrated to develop students' ability to generate solutions to design problems at various scales. In addition, the program fosters critical thinking, ethical responsibility, and interdisciplinary collaboration, supporting students in becoming professionals capable of creating high-quality environments in the public sector, private sector, and academia.

The Master's Program in Landscape Architecture (with Thesis) aims to enable students to effectively apply both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field. The program supports the development of creative thinking and effective communication skills in landscape design, planning, and management processes. It encourages students to understand interdisciplinary interactions, integrate knowledge from different fields, and generate new knowledge. Furthermore, students acquire the competencies necessary to address challenges encountered in landscape research, design, planning, and management through a variety of methods and techniques.

The PhD Program in Landscape Architecture aims to equip students with the ability to systematically evaluate and apply current and interdisciplinary knowledge related to the field. The program promotes the critical analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of new and complex ideas. Students are encouraged to conduct original research, develop innovative ideas, methods, designs, or applications, and adapt existing approaches to new contexts. In this way, the program aims to educate scholars and professionals capable of making independent contributions to scientific and professional advancement in the field.
