“Eco-cultural Exploration Series Valley Futures: Water-Led Retrofits”

Landscape Design III - PEM 312E (CRN 24539) – “Eco-cultural Exploration Series Valley Futures: Water-Led Retrofits” will be conducted by Prof. Dr. Meltem Erdem Kaya and Res. Assst. Gizem Aluçlu Armutcu in the 2025-2026 Spring Semester.

This studio focuses on the design of a blue-green infrastructure system for İstinye Valley. In line with the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipalities Life Valley Strategy, the studio focuses on İstinye as a case to investigate the potential of the valley to create a holistic framework as the main backbone of the blue-green network at the neighborhood scale. The studio aims to generate design knowledge through eco-cultural explorations to reveal the ecological and cultural dynamics of the site and propose an urban park program that reflects creative design thinking and spatial solutions as an ecological and cultural manifestation through the urban stream landscape. The park, the existing character, and the land use pattern of the valley will be the starting point for the urban landscape discussions, questioning the design's quality and materiality whilst respecting the site's existing character.
