“Biophilic Sanctuary: The Spatial Antidote to Modern Solitude”

Landscape Design II – PEM 311E (CRN 24536) – “Biophilic Sanctuary: The Spatial Antidote to Modern Solitude” will be conducted by Prof. Dr. Elif Lütfiye Kutay Karaçor and assisted by Res. Asst. Elif Ağaoğlu Yıldırım in the 2025–2026 Spring Semester.

This studio approaches Anadolu Hisarı and its immediate surroundings as a site for rethinking the well-being of inhabitants. Responding to the accelerating pace of urban life and increasing isolation, the project focuses on designing a biophilic sanctuary within the city, exploring the relationship between human health and landscape experience. Through an integrated reading of topography, vegetation, water systems, and historical layers, students develop spatial strategies informed by biophilic design principles and sensory-oriented design approaches, aiming to strengthen the human–nature relationship and create restorative environments embedded in everyday urban life.
