“Metabolic Bridge: Liminal Spaces for Edirne”

Graduation Project JURY B “Metabolic Bridge: Liminal Spaces for Edirne” will be conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilay Özlü Karaca , Dr. Arzu Türk as the core jury members; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eda Ünlü Yücesoy, Cansu Güreser and Ahsen Karagöl as guest jury members and will be assisted by Res. Asst. Nergis Aşar and Res. Asst. Rabia Ezgi Beyen in the 2025-2026 Spring Semester.

Located at the volatile intersection of the Meriç, Tunca, and Arda Rivers, the national border, and Edirne’s agricultural hinterland, this Graduation Project proposes to redefine the concept of ‘border’ from a physical barrier into a dynamic and metabolic bridge connecting the historic city and the countryside.
The project approaches Edirne not only as a border city but also as a ‘threshold space’ where cultures and geographies converge. The rivers, rather than dividing the topography or cultures, create a ‘place of encounter’ that regulates and defines the trade routes, touristic visits, and cultural flow. Migrant movements, border crossings, and the lavish flow of water are the fundamental dynamics that constantly reshape this landscape.
This graduation project aims to design the liminal spaces beyond Edirne's city center as a living organism, a metabolic bridge, nourished by cultural heritage, collective memory, and ecological cycles. It is also envisioned in conceptual dialogue with the upcoming Edirne Biennial 2026, exploring shared themes of connectivity, heritage, and shared spaces.
